The Athletic journalist Steve Madeley has shared a double injury boost for Wolves before they play Liverpool in the Premier League next weekend.

The Lowdown: First win

Bruno Lage’s side grabbed their first win of the top-flight season on Saturday with a 1-0 victory against Southampton at Molineux, which has lifted them up to 14th in the table.

It should hopefully give them confidence going into next weekend’s fixture as they will face a potentially daunting trip to Anfield, where Jurgen Klopp’s team recently thumped Bournemouth 9-0. Four days later, the Cherries held Wolves to a scoreless draw.

The Latest: Injury updates

Taking to Twitter, Madeley shared some injury updates from the Wolves manager on both Kalajdzic and Jimenez, who had problems before and during the Southampton game on Saturday afternoon.

The journalist tweeted: “Bruno Lage says Jimenez had ‘chronic fatigue’ in the warm-up and Kalajdzic felt ‘a pain’ at half-time. But he doesn’t think either is serious and would expect to have both available for Liverpool.”

The Verdict: Double boost

It will certainly be a boost to have both strikers available to play against the Reds next weekend.

Wolves have only netted a mere three goals themselves so far in the top flight, the joint-fewest of any team in the division, and they will likely need some potent firepower up top if they are going to get anything on Merseyside.

New signing Kalajdzic hit 22 goals in his last two Bundesliga campaigns and will be eager to get off the mark for the Old Gold, while Jimenez is desperate to rediscover the kind of form which saw him score 30 Premier League goals between the 2018/19 and 2019/20 campaigns.

Both players may be needed to convert chances, which could come few and far between at Liverpool.
