As per The Sun, BBC are now looking to enact damage control and have offered Merson a six-figure deal to join the show as they believe the 56-year-old "will be a popular addition as footballers always do well with fans."
THE GOSSIP
Merson comes with his own flaws as he has previously opened up about his issues with alcohol, gambling and drugs on an ITV show with Harry Redknapp. The showrunners believe that Merson's history of issues and his overcoming of them could move 'Strictly Come Dancing' target audiences and help the show overcome recent controversies.
WHAT NEXT FOR MERSON?
The 21st series of 'Strictly Come Dancing' is expected to begin shooting in September. If Merson does sign on with the reality television show, he will likely be unavailable for his punditry duties till the end of the year.
